There is a movie series about GodWinks out there featuring Cathy Lee Gifford. It is "hallmarky" fun. I love, love to get some hot cocoa, a favorite cookie, a soft, warm throw blankie, and settle in.
Well, I skipped the cocoa and cookie, but am still having trouble getting my feet on the ground after living through an unbelievable GodWink Weekend. I highly recommend having yourself a merry, little one as soon as possible. How did it all start . . . with prayer, of course.
One of my all-time favorite authors is Andy Andrews. [If you have not read his The Noticer series, The Traveler's Gift books--and, frankly, anything he has written--you are missing out on one of life's adventurous joys.] Take an adventure with Mr. Andy; read Andy Andrews, and you will not be disappointed. Although I have been blessed with many people, places, and events in my life that helped to inspire me to launch this new career path as a writer, he is very close to the top of my list.
God winked at me this past weekend by allowing me to meet this man who is a trailblazer, and a writer's mentor (although, quite possibly, he may be unaware that he fulfills this role for fledgling writers like me). He is a man who knows how to dig wisdom out of life and share it, and he is also just a really neat, down-to-Earth, friendly soul.
With the help of my trusty marriage companion of thirty-nine years, Mr. Jim, the fun guy in my life who not only helps keep me grounded but also keeps me from getting lost along the way, I was able to maneuver a trip to Orange Beach where Andrews has a recording studio; he produces stellar podcasts featuring interviews of societal icons and his new Wisdom Harbour program (check out both online at AndyAndrews.com--again he does not disappoint). He also runs a lovely little store for his many books and supporting goodies--T-shirts and so on.
There is no way I should have been able to meet this uniquely wonderful man who has taught and continues to teach so many so much--if we have eyes to read and ears to listen. First, this "mission impossible" should have been impossible because although he is a humble, kind soul, he is also an internationally known author and speaker. Ya just don't normally run into guys like this. Second, he was out at an appointment, and his staff was hoping he'd make it back in because they had some things to go over with him for his next appointment. It was one of those "he should not have been where he ended up at just the precise right time" moments.
Not only did he make it, but he also spent several moments with this lil ole school teacher chatting and signing books. I believe he would do this for any fan, but these opportunities just don't line up as this day did. I did confess to him quietly that I hoped his schedule wasn't disrupted too much, but since I had prayed to get the opportunity to meet him, I kinda pulled a trump card to disrupt him. He just smiled and signed another book.
And then, to top it all off, he patiently and kindly accepted my offer to give him a copy of Shirley's and my first book, In Truth, It's All About the Baby, and allowed my faithful husband Jim to snap a picture of the handover.
Then with a slight sideways grin, he asked, "Did you sign it?" since he had just signed several for me--to which I delightfully replied, "Yes, Sir, and I wrote you a note too."
Hmmm. I wonder what the next level up of a GodWink blessing will be. In truth, God didn't just wink at me; He flat-out picked me up, swung me around in a circle, and danced with me. And my feet are still not back on terra firma and may not be for some time.
One of the many lessons last Friday: If you do not ask, you will not receive. I asked God for a dream and He winked at me.
